Cisco's Sustainability Partnership

Olympic runners pass the relay baton

"Sustainability is a key part of London 2012 and we're looking forward to a truly sustainable Games. From construction to how we will stage the Games, we're constantly looking at ways to ensure we're setting new standards in how major events are staged." Seb Coe, chair of the London Olympic Games Organising Committee (LOCOG).

Connecting Sustainability to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Right from the start, the idea of making London 2012 a 'greener Games' was a passion of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG). It was also a key factor in London's successful bid for the Games. As a result, LOCOG adopted a five point plan of how they would achieve this ambition.

LOCOG's five point plan
  • Climate change: reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.
  • Waste: reducing total waste and encouraging recycling in the building process as well as during the Games themselves.
  • Biodiversity: minimising the impact of the Games on local flora and fauna.
  • Inclusion: Creating work, training and business opportunities for London's diverse communities.
  • Healthy living: Inspiring people across the UK to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.
How Cisco has helped
